District heating in Antwerp

Heating is responsible for approximately 50% of total final energy consumption in Europe. District heating systems provide heating for a wide range of customers, from residential building to commercial, public and industrial customers. Meanwhile, there are thousands of district heating systems in Europe, currently supplying more than 10% of total European heat demands. The benefits of district heating and district cooling are most apparent in areas with high density energy demands, like Flanders…

For more than 100 years, Denmark has been implementing district heating, which leads to a substantial knowhow. Though still at the beginning, Flanders has equally set ambitious goals. In Antwerp for example district heating is no longer a far-fetched dream. On the contrary, it's intensively being worked on.

In March 2017, ISVAG and the Danish federation for District Heating (DBDH) have signed a letter of intent with the aim to exchange knowledge and information. Together with EnergyVille and with the support of different companies and organisations a first successful edition of the "District Heating Workshop" was organised in Antwerp in November 2018. Supported by the positive feedback of more than 200 participants, we gladly invite you to the second international workshop for district heating, on Wednesday 11 December in the Provinciehuis in Antwerp.

Combining top speakers from Ireland, the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark an international programme was established. Together with experts from different subject areas - technical, legal, financial, communications... -  a current state of affairs will be given on district heating in Flanders. Both opportunities, drawback and best practices will be covered and specific plans and ambitious goals are covered.-

The detailed programme with all details can be found here.

Who?

This workshop is free of charge and meant for everyone in Flanders closely or broadly involved in district heating, both personally or professionally.

Extra feature: Technical visits on 12 December

To demonstrate district heating is so much more than vague plans, on 12 December 2019, technical visits to specific projects, such as the district heating network Nieuw-Zuid and the construction site of the district heating network being set up from ISVAG to the industrial site 'Terbekehof'. These visits are also free of charge. The programme can be found here.
