What if, suddenly, we were unable to draw power from the grid? Would all our 1950s fantasies of an automated luxury life evaporate? Would all tasks become manual work again, and would we have to reduce light, heat and travel to an absolute minimum?

Probably not. Citizens, companies and researchers are already experimenting with alternative ways to produce, store and distribute electricity. These initiatives make the future ready to use at the scale of a building, a neighbourhood or a whole city.

With an exhibition in Bozar, La Pile puts a spotlight on their experiences and the marvels of electricity as a source of inspiration for citizens to take power in our own hands.

La Pile is a City Mine(d) initiative that prepares the Brussels Midi neighbourhood for the day electric power no longer has to come from kilometers away over the gigantic grid.

EXPO 10 > 25 May 2019

POWERFEST Sunday 12 May 2019

With the project La PileCity Mine(d) prepares the Brussels Midi neighbourhood for the day electric power no longer has to come from kilometres away over the gigantic electricity grid.
Generating our own electricity, storing it for later use and sharing it with our neighbours are familiar ways of reducing our dependency of the grid. But which mix is the best form our neighbourhood? And how to make sure all are involved?

  • 13:00-16:30 Exploration Game

With a cooperative board game at BOZAR, La Pile maps out the options at neighbourhood and city level, and imagines scenarios that could better balance planet and electricity user.

We provide an inspiring environment and call upon your creative, technical, social and organisational ingenuity (indeed, an even brighter future is calling!).

Generating our own electricity, storing it for later use and sharing it with our neighbours are familiar ways of reducing our dependency of the grid. But which mix is the best form our neighbourhood? And how to make sure all are involved?

On Sunday 12 May, Joël Solé (Brussel Environment), Dirk Vansintjan (Rescoop.eu and Ecopower) and Leen Govaerts(Energyville) under (experience) expert supervision of John Vandaele (Energent, Mo* Magazine) debate the results of the exploration game and the role of citizens in the future of electricity.
