Description

The Built Environment team at VITO/EnergyVille assesses the environmental impact of building materials and energy technologies. We conduct research in the field of the LCA of innovative products and processes, and advise industry and governments about innovative solutions and alternative production methods. We are currently seeking an experienced Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) expert to strengthen our team.

  • In this position, you will work as a researcher in consultancy assignments for governments or industry and in funded research projects (for example, Horizon Europe).
  • You will analyse the environmental impact and be involved in the analysis of the financial and economic impact related to energy technologies. These include Power-to-X technologies, batteries, solar cells and HVAC systems.
  • You will make a tangible contribution to sustainability through innovation projects in which new solutions are developed based upon your research and then tested and brought to the market.
  • You will play a leading role in securing projects. This will include exploratory talks with the customer, determining the contract, tasks and budget, and writing offers.
  • You will ensure innovation in our field of expertise in terms of the further development of LCA methodologies, scenario analysis, digitalisation and data processing.
  • You will be responsible for partnerships within national and European consortia, and you will expand your network to include Belgian and European authorities and industrial partners.

Profile

  • You must hold a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline. A PhD and experience with publishing through scientific channels would be an advantage.
  • You will have at least 2 years of proven work experience in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and the analysis of renewable energy technologies.
  • Experience with programming (for example Python), with advanced LCA software (in particular Brightway, Activity Browser, etc.) and with data processing will be a plus.
  • You have a passion for innovation and research, you want to share your knowledge, gain new knowledge, expand your network and get the best out of yourself and your colleagues.
  • You are adept at writing clear, comprehensible reports and quotations.
  • You are a flexible and results-orientated team player who also enjoys the opportunity to tackle projects independently.
  • Knowledge of Dutch is an added value but not required.
